Play Xvid Files on Mac

Although all computers should be able to play an Xvid files with player software, you may need to install a playback component if you wish to use a 3rd party player.

  • For Mac OS X 10.4 or later Users, install the Perian Quicktime Component
  • For Mac OS X 10.1 to 10.3 Users, install the Universal AVI Quicktime Components

There are few DVD Players that will play Xvid files. To play, just burn the Xvid files to a CD or DVD and play. If this doesn’t work in your player, convert the Xvid files to a format your DVD player will play, such as DVD or VCD.

Convert an Xvid File

There are two main ways to convert an Xvid file to another file type:

  • Open the Xvid file in its default program and choose to save the open file as another file format.
  • You can use a File Conversion Online Service or Software Program to convert the Xvid file to another file format.

The first option to open  the XVID file in its native program is preferable in its because it’s both easier and will probably result in a more accurate file conversion. Of course if you don’t have a program that opens Xvid files, a third-party file conversion tool (the second option) could be very useful.

You cannot usually change a file extension (like the Xvid file extension) to one that your computer recognizes and expect the newly renamed file to be utilizable. An actual file format conversion using one of the methods described above must take place in most cases.

Step 1: Install and run the AVI to Galaxy Tab 2 Converter, click Add button to bring in your source AVI videos. Batch conversion is supported so that you can add multiple files.

Step 2: From the “Format” dropdown menu, you can choose “Samsung > Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1(*.mp4)” as the best export format.
Tip: If you are Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 users, choose “Samsung > Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition Video(*.mp4)” as the optimal format.

Step 3: You can click “Settings” to change the video encoder, resolution, frame rate, etc. as you wish. The file size and video quality is based more on bitrate than resolution which means bitrate higher results in big file size, and lower visible quality loss, and vice versa.
